We first wrote about Lost Soul Aside in 2017, so it’s understandable why some fans are getting antsy about a release date. Back then, the title looked like a wildly impressive indie alternative to Devil May Cry, which at the time was a series somewhat in the wilderness, following Ninja Theory’s divisive franchise reboot.
Of course, new character action titles have popped up since, including the back-to-basics Devil May Cry 5 and even the likes of Final Fantasy 16. All of this has, to an extent, lessened the appeal of Lost Soul Aside, which doesn’t feel as special as it did when it debuted. Clearly based on this gameplay demo, as captured by Gematsu, there’s still lots of promise here, however.

The action starts approximately 10 minutes into the clip, and we see some combat demonstrations. Some of the moves on display are quite creative: the main character can summon claws, for example, which rotate and deal devastating damage. It all seems extremely over-the-top, and the user interface is looking more final these days – however, it seems more like a tech demo than a finished product.
And as we near a decade of work on this title, it probably needs to be more than that at this point. We understand this is a small team making its debut project, but considering it’s been seven years since Sony started incubating it, we expected it to be closer to completion by now. Are you still hyped for Lost Soul Aside, or is your interest waning at this point?

My PlayStation 7 is ready!
Yeah, this isn’t a real game. Not because it looks too good to be true or anything, but if the best you have to show 7 years in is a training session and a poorly designed boss fight, both in big, empty arenas (all done with what look like off the shelf UE5 assets) it just is not happening.
It's a tight race between Star Ciziten and Lost soul aside. Who will release first? Stay tuned for another episode of Wacky races
Looks cool, although I had to re-read the headline a few times to figure out why “Aside” was used there…. Until I realized it’s the game’s name. XD
@Czar_Khastik Next Time on Wacky Races Z.
Lost soul aside looks really good.its crazy that it takes all that time.word up son
We really need more DMC combat type of games, sucks that we rarely get this type of genre.
@Nepp67
Devs nowadays: You would like more games of this type? How about another Soulslike instead? No? How about a Soulslike Metroidvania? No? Ok ok ok...ummm
Ah I've got it!
How about a Soulslike Rougelike?
What? Not even that? Ok this one you're gonna love....you ready for it?
A 2D Metroidvania......
...but it's got Soulslike combat...and pixel graphics!
I wouldn’t throw around the word “fans” so lightly lol nothing about this game’s IP has ever released anything for it garner “fans.”
Can’t be a fan of something that has zero anything to do with it released.
I aint rushing them or anything but I was just hoping they wouldve shown off more. A level walktrhough, cutscenes, more characters, etc. Its been a long time since the last showing and this is all they have. Its a bummer.
@NowWithVitaminR Sony wouldn't funded and act as a publisher if it's not a real game.
Some people definitely forgot how this game was started only as a prototype created by one guy as his appreciation and love for FF XV. But the prototype garnered a lot of positive response including from Sony themself who eventually helped that one guy to formed his own team & studio back in 2019 or 3 years after he showed the prototype.
Pretty much the game only in full development for 5 years, with 2 years has limitation because of Covid 2020-21. This is still in normal development cycle for a small and new indie devs who have zero experience of making action games.
So relax and let the devs do their job. Learn the lesson from Cyberpunk 2077 and many games that released unfinished / unpolished because gamers was impatience and keeps spamming publishers / devs with question "where's the release date?".
Kinda was hoping this would be out this year along with Stellar Blade and Black Myth Wukong but I’d happily wait till next year if it makes they can work on it more
@TruestoryYep
I’m not really much of a souls like fan and it does seem to it’s being an over used genre that not every gamer likes.
Only souls like game I’ve actually played and loved is Tails of Iron, the Jedi games if they class as one but I personally don’t think of them a souls like.
That being said I am really interested in Black Myth Wukong, as well as playing Lies of P and the Nioh games, there’s also another crab’s treasure that looks good and of course Tails of Iron 2.
It’s still not a genre I fully love compared to Rogue likes, RPG’s, platformers and action games
I will still play this,it's been on my radar for a long time, ever since they announced it was inspired by FF versus XIII
The game has always looked weak from the very begining, never understood the so called "Hype".
Everything about it just seemed meh.
Most of the "Hype" started because it started with one person making the game.
Honestly think it will not sell well, any interest it once had, has long gone.
Yeah, this game is never coming out.
Fans? It's not out, lol. Fans of a tech demo?
The sad part is, it looks so out dated now. So many better looking games than this have already come out within this time.
It looks less impressive and outdated now than it did a few years ago, but I hope it'll release with solid gameplay.
It'll release next year, trust me bro.

They could've found an in with the live service way imo, Star Citizen and NMS, even Genshin could..
If they had so much content like they said..
LSA left most people the impression of combat foremost, not the story. Story can always be continued in a live service way, not another 5 years mind you!
When done right, with their scale of ambition I don't think it cannot be done.
Most games market them in Part 1 into Part 2 to make cash, doesn't always mean it's always going to be one-and-done or waiting for another full blown sequel.
They are indie, they can be flexible. It's not corpa.

That being said, PS5 Pro could not be a better time for it to ride along with.
Gotta say, it's pretty ironic that a game inspired by a tech demo for a project that never came out and morphed into something that only barely resembled the original, taking a literal decade to release, seems to be morphing into something different and taking 7+ years to release...
